Michael Izza, CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, recently visited Cyprus to participate in a panel discussion organised by the British High Commission titled “Securing Cyprus’s success as a financial centre”.
Mr Izza said that reputation and security are critical factors in maintaining a successful position in the financial services market. Cyprus scores highly on these. He also stressed the importance of having a robust, but not excessively bureaucratic and restrictive, regulatory regime and skilled and qualified people such as accountants, lawyers, bankers and IT specialists to provide the necessary business infrastructure and services, and highlighted the importance of Cyprus’s benign corporate and individual tax regime. Mr Izza also pointed to Cyprus’s potential to grow as a financial centre, being ideally placed to act as a bridge between Europe and Asian financial centres. While Cyprus’s long-established relationships with Russia and Eastern Europe are as important as ever, it is also building new links with China, the USA and the UK in financial services. |
